Senate President Alcolumbre advances PEC to end 6x1 work scale
Senate President Davi Alcolumbre has moved the Constitutional Amendment (PEC) to end the 6x1 work scale forward to the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ). This decision follows institutional dialogue and meetings between Alcolumbre and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, aimed at addressing government priorities.
The PEC 221/2019 proposes reducing the weekly work hours from 44 to 40 without salary reductions. The amendment includes a transition period of 14 months: a two-hour reduction 60 days after promulgation, followed by another two-hour reduction 12 months later. The proposal aims to ensure workers have two consecutive days of rest per week.
In addition to the labor proposal, Alcolumbre also forwarded the Public Security PEC (PEC 18/2025) and the National Policy for Critical and Strategic Minerals bill (PL 2780/2024) to the relevant committees. These matters are considered high priority for the Executive branch. The legislative process will follow the standard Senate regimental procedures, including analysis by the CCJ before proceeding to a plenary vote.
