Brazil launches 2026 National Health Survey

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and the Ministry of Health announced the third edition of the National Health Survey (PNS) 2026. The study will visit more than 140,000 households nationwide, gathering information on living habits, use of health services, chronic diseases and elderly health. Data collection begins on Monday, 6 February, using a sample‑based household interview rather than a census. For participants aged over 35, the survey adds blood and urine testing for biomarkers such as sodium, potassium, creatinine, cholesterol, glycated hemoglobin, uric acid, lead, mercury and a chikungunya serology. IBGE says the results will “guide public policies, support the management of the Unified Health System (SUS) and monitor national and international health targets.” The questionnaire is described as “very broad” to provide precise statistics for the whole population.
