Brazil launches infrastructure projects at key border crossings

Brazil has launched two major infrastructure projects aimed at improving border connectivity and transit efficiency near its southern frontiers.

In Foz do Iguaçu, the municipality has opened a bidding process for the construction of an underpass beneath the BR-277 highway. This project, with a maximum investment of R$ 17,757,277.72, aims to connect the Jardim Jupira and Vila Portes neighborhoods. The underpass is designed to facilitate local movement and reorganize traffic in a strategic area near the Friendship Bridge, which links Brazil and Paraguay.

Simultaneously, the Brazilian Federal Government has begun a comprehensive R$ 59.1 million rehabilitation of the bridge connecting Uruguayana, Brazil, to Paso de los Libres, Argentina. The 28-month project involves structural reinforcement of pillars, new drainage and waterproofing systems, paving renewal, and road widening. This bridge serves as a vital international corridor for Mercosur trade, having operated since the 1940s.
