Brazil launches multiple environmental education projects in Paraíba and Pernambuco
On 5 June 2026, the State Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability (Semas) of Paraíba inaugurated the “Vozes das UCs” project in the Bananeiras municipality’s Mata de Goiamunduba Ecological Interest Area, as part of the Semana do Meio Ambiente. The week’s programme, timed with World Environment Day, featured environmental education workshops, tree‑planting, waste‑management talks and community outreach across several towns, aiming to strengthen conservation awareness and public engagement with protected areas.
Later that day, the municipality of Serra Talhada in Pernambuco began its “Junho Verde 2026” campaign, a month‑long series of sustainability activities under the theme “Sowing the Future of Our City”. The agenda includes an Eco Gincana for schools, Eco Running events, a recycling and circular‑economy forum, awards for best practices, ecological trails and a final environmental bike ride on 5 July. Mayor Márcia Conrado highlighted the effort to involve students, public servants and residents in building a more sustainable city.
