Brazil launches national survey to map tourism demand and traveler habits
The Brazilian Ministry of Tourism has launched the first National Tourism Demand Survey (PNDT) to map the profiles, travel habits, consumption, and perceptions of tourists across the country. The initiative, part of the National Observatory of Sustainable Tourism, will conduct approximately 22,500 interviews in 50 municipalities selected from all five Brazilian regions.
Field data collection is scheduled to run through October 3, 2026. Researchers will interview both Brazilian and foreign visitors in high-traffic areas to gather data on transportation, accommodation, length of stay, travel motivations, expenditures, and infrastructure quality, including safety and accessibility.
Campo Grande is among the selected destinations participating in the study. The city's local government is supporting the field stage to help leverage results for better tourism promotion and infrastructure planning. The final results of the survey are expected to be released by April 2027.
