Brazil launches new digital platforms to boost national cinema

Actor Vinícius de Oliveira unveiled FilmesBr, a free, self‑managed hub that aggregates news, reviews and releases for Brazilian films and series. The platform, launched on 19 June to mark Brazil’s Cinema Day, lets press offices and producers upload links to articles, videos and social posts, creating a permanent public mural for each title. While FilmesBr remains free for theatrical releases, it will charge for digitally‑first productions to sustain operations.

Separately, the Ministry of Culture’s streaming service Tela Brasil highlighted its most‑watched titles from the first two weeks of operation, including classics such as A Hora da Estrela and Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol. The service offers more than 500 Brazilian titles and supports restoration projects like the Nitratos initiative, which digitises early‑20th‑century nitrate films for long‑term preservation.
