Brazil launches new motorcycle safety campaigns to reduce traffic fatalities

In Brazil, new initiatives have been launched to improve motorcycle safety and reduce traffic fatalities. In Maringá, the municipal government introduced the ‘Maringá Pela Vida’ movement as part of a Road Safety Plan. This follows data showing 122 motorcyclist deaths and 14 passenger deaths over a five-year period, with motorcyclists accounting for 62% of all traffic fatalities in the city. Proposed measures include increased nighttime checkpoints focusing on speeding, signal violations, and mobile phone use, as well as engineering improvements like sound-based speed radars and enhanced visibility at critical intersections.

Simultaneously, Abraciclo and the Suhai Festival Interlagos launched the ‘Pilote Pela Vida’ educational campaign. Debuting at the Festival Interlagos 2026, the campaign aims to promote responsible riding habits among the two-wheel vehicle community. The initiative uses visual cues, such as the color yellow, and distributes educational materials to emphasize the importance of vehicle maintenance and rider visibility.
