Brazil's Education Ministry rolls out new funding scheme, policy guide and France partnership
The Ministry of Education (MEC) and CAPES have set a June 30 deadline for public schools to join the second cycle of the Programa Dinheiro Direto na Escola Equidade (PDDE Equidade). The programme will allocate roughly R$ 378 million to about 30 000 schools, with R$ 93 million for water, field and agro‑ecology, R$ 84.9 million for diversity programmes and R$ 200.3 million for multifunctional resource rooms.
MEC’s Coordination‑General of Integral and Full‑Time Education published a synthetic guide to help state, municipal and district networks revise or create local Education Integral policies by 31 October. The guide outlines a five‑step process aligned with Resolution CNE/CEB 7/2025, targeting a minimum seven‑hour school day.
In Manaus, MEC and CAPES participated in meetings of the Brazil‑France Centre for Amazon Biodiversity (CFBBA). The partnership will support joint research projects on conservation, indigenous knowledge, forest monitoring and sustainable bio‑economy, providing up to R$ 1.4 million in scholarships, the same amount in CNPq‑funded costs and up to € 400 000 from France’s IRD.
Municipalities have begun drafting a new Municipal Education Plan for 2026‑2036, and the Waldir Garcia municipal school in Manaus was showcased for its democratic management under MEC’s “Experiências Inspiradoras da Educação Integral” programme.
