Brazil launches real‑time monitoring for Infovia 05 fiber project

The Infovia 05 segment of the federal Norte Conectado program began installation this week, linking Autazes in Amazonas with Porto Velho in Rondônia. For the first time in the program, a real‑time monitoring platform developed by the Entidade Administradora da Faixa (EAF) provides GPS positioning, live camera feeds and cable‑length data, allowing the Ministry of Communications, the National Telecommunications Agency and other managers to watch the submarine fiber‑optic launch from anywhere.

Co‑ordinator‑General of Infrastructure Projects Ángelo Lorenzo called the system “an important milestone that adds great value, giving us closer oversight and the ability to coordinate other stages of the cable deployment.” Analyst Anderson de Paula noted that the tool improves decision‑making and permits rapid adjustments when river conditions change. Infovia 05 will span about 1,326 km of cable, serving roughly 700 000 people, and is part of a R$ 1.3‑billion investment that ultimately aims to lay nearly 13 000 km of fiber across the Amazon region.
