Brazil launches strategic rare‑earths book outlining 2026‑2040 policy roadmap

The Centre for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE), a social organization linked to Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, released the book *Terras Raras no Brasil: estado da arte, cenários e um mapa do caminho estratégico para 2026‑2040*. Signed by ten engineers, researchers and university professors, the volume maps the country’s rare‑earth reserves – including a substantial portion in the Amazon – and presents scenarios for domestic industrial development, multilateral financing and export strategies.

The book was presented at the VII Brazilian Rare‑Earths Seminar in Rio de Janeiro and is positioned to inform debates on Bill 2780/2024, which proposes a National Policy for Critical and Strategic Minerals and creates a council under the Presidency. CGEE director‑president Anderson Gomes said the work is “a document about strategies to transform what we have of rare earths in our soil into global competitiveness” and emphasized that “we have the rare earths. We don’t need anyone to tell us what to do.” The publication also calls for an industrial policy, technical training programmes and scale‑up of domestic processing capabilities.
