Brazil launches support network for educators facing professional violence
The National Observatory of Violence against Students (ONVE), in partnership with the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC), has launched a support service for education professionals who have experienced violence related to their profession. Coordinated by an inter-institutional action based at the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), the initiative is part of the National Policy for Human Rights Education in Educational Institutions (EducaDH).
The support network is composed of Regional Observatories of Violence against Educators (ORVEs) located at federal universities across all five regions of Brazil, including UNIR, UFPE, UFR, UFF, and UFSC. These observatories provide multidimensional support through three specialized interdisciplinary nuclei: a Political-Pedagogical Nucleus for initial case analysis, a Mental Health Nucleus for psychological support, and a Legal Nucleus to provide guidance on legal aspects.
Access to the service is available via a form on the Observatory’s official website. Due to the nature of the university extension project, requests are organized in a queue and processed based on the availability of participating students, meaning assistance is not immediate.
