Brazil leads South American Games medal tally led by swimming

Brazil has taken the lead in the medal standings at the South American Games in Santa Fe, Argentina, accumulating 51 medals—including 21 gold, 18 silver, and 12 bronze—within the first two days of competition.

Swimming has been a primary driver of this success. Athletes from Esporte Clube Pinheiros contributed significantly, securing five gold and seven silver medals while setting three South American records. Notable performances include Caio Pumputis winning the 100m breaststroke and Breno Correia setting a record in the 100m freestyle. The Brazilian team also secured gold in the 4x100m medley relay.

In individual events, Stephan Steverink earned two gold medals in the 400m medley and the 200m freestyle, the latter of which set a new Games record. Murilo Sartori secured a silver medal in the 200m freestyle, completing a Brazilian one-two finish in that event.
