Brazil livestock market shows mixed price moves as pork, chicken fall and milk climbs

Wholesale prices for Brazil's animal proteins diverged last week. Pork fell to R$8.55 per kilogram, chicken to R$7.23 per kilogram and eggs dropped to R$142.26 for a 30‑dozen tray, reflecting heightened price pressure on non‑beef proteins. In contrast, UHT milk rose 2.1% to R$5.37 per litre, while the arábba of the fattened steer in Sao Paulo gained 0.26% to R$327.59 after a prior decline.

The cattle sector also saw a decline in feed costs. In June, the daily confinement cost in Brazil’s Southeast reached its lowest level of the year at R$11.79 per head, driven by lower protein‑feed prices such as a 19.8% drop in cottonseed. However, corn prices rose 7% and silage costs increased 15.8%, partially offsetting the overall feed cost reduction. Despite the lower arábba price, profitability per head remained positive, with a profit of R$1,007.41 per head in the Southeast.

Overall, the data highlight a heterogeneous Brazilian protein market: pork, chicken and eggs under pressure, milk maintaining gains, and beef showing modest recovery amid shifting feed input costs.
