Linhares, Brazil: Man dies after falling into father's grave

Adilson Marsaro, 48, died following a fatal accident at the São José Municipal Cemetery in Linhares, Brazil. The incident occurred while Marsaro was attending the funeral of an acquaintance.

According to witnesses and local reports, Marsaro left the funeral service to visit his father's grave. As he sat on the concrete gravestone, the structure suddenly collapsed, causing him to fall into the grave shaft below. Although emergency responders were called to the scene immediately after the collapse, Marsaro was pronounced dead by the time they arrived.

The Linhares City Hall issued a statement expressing condolences to the family and urged cemetery visitors to exercise extra caution, particularly with the upcoming Day of the Dead holiday. Local authorities noted that while the city manages the cemetery, the upkeep of individual tombs remains the responsibility of the families. Civil police are investigating the circumstances of the collapse to determine responsibility.
