Brazil economic outlook: Inflation forecasts rise and GDP growth projections fall

The Brazilian financial market is experiencing significant shifts in economic projections and volatility. According to the Central Bank's Focus Bulletin, inflation expectations (IPCA) for 2026 have risen to 4.99%, while GDP growth forecasts for the same year have been reduced to 1.86%. Market participants project the Selic interest rate to reach 13.5% per year by the end of 2026.

In the currency market, the US dollar saw a decline in September, closing at approximately R$ 5.17, marking a monthly decrease of 0.15%. This movement was influenced by US inflation data (PCE) coming in below expectations, which reduced bets on immediate interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve.

Stock market performance remained robust, with the Ibovespa index rising 5.03% during September, reaching 186,340.46 points. However, market uncertainty is high; the S&P/B3 Ibovespa VIX, a measure of market volatility, hit a record high of 32.06 points, driven by upcoming general elections and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
