Brazil marks 30 years of Arbitration Law with legal workshops

Legal institutions in Brazil are organizing events to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the country's Arbitration Law (Law No. 9.307/1996). These gatherings aim to discuss the evolution of dispute resolution mechanisms and the future of the legal landscape.

The Centro Brasileiro de Mediação e Arbitragem (CBMA) will host a workshop in São Paulo on September 30, 2026, focusing on the evolution of the ‘kompetenz-kompetenz’ principle. This principle grants arbitral tribunals the authority to decide on their own jurisdiction, including the validity and scope of arbitration agreements. The event will feature legal experts and the launch of a commemorative volume of the ‘Temas de Arbitragem’ series.

Additionally, the Federação das Entidades de Conciliação, Mediação e Arbitragem (FECEMA) will hold the XIV SECMASC online seminar on November 12 and 13, 2026. This seminar will address modern challenges such as technological advancements, Artificial Intelligence, Dispute Boards, and the professionalization of private arbitration chambers.
