Brazil marks International Indigenous Peoples Day with music releases and museum film program

To mark the International Day of Indigenous Peoples on 9 August, Brazilian digital distributor Nikita Music released a curated collection of six streaming albums that showcase traditional and contemporary music from Indigenous groups such as the Yawanawá, Huni Kuin, Suraras of the Tapajós and the Pataxó. Executive director Felippe Llerena said the selection aims to broaden public access to Indigenous languages, rituals and environmental themes through digital platforms.

In the state of Sergipe, the Museu da Gente Sergipana organized a free two‑day Cine Museu event on 8–9 August. The program featured four documentary films—"Cidadão jatobá", "Serras da desordem", "Indígenas e missionários no sertão sergipano" and "Conexão entre mundos"—that explore Indigenous identity, history and resistance, seeking to raise awareness and challenge stereotypes about Brazil's Indigenous peoples.
