Brazil marks National Dialysis Day with kidney health awareness

In observance of National Dialysis Day, healthcare organizations in Brazil are emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). In Rio de Janeiro, the Associação Brasileira dos Centros de Diálise e Transplante (ABCDT) and DaVita Tratamento Renal partnered with MetrôRio to provide free blood pressure and glucose testing at the Central do Brasil station to encourage public awareness.

Medical experts note that hypertension and diabetes are primary risk factors for kidney failure, which often progresses silently. Currently, more than 170,000 Brazilians undergo dialysis treatment. Early intervention through routine monitoring is critical to delaying the progression of the disease.

In other regions, the Fundação Pró-Rim reported performing 73,211 hemodialysis sessions between January and July 2026 across its units in Santa Catarina and Tocantins. The foundation provides comprehensive care, including peritoneal dialysis and support for patients preparing for kidney transplants, utilizing a multidisciplinary team to manage the complexities of renal health.
