Brazil MDIC reports investigation of 43 foreign trade irregularities
The Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) has released the 6th report from the Foreign Trade Intelligence Group (GI-CEX), covering activities from January to July 2026. The report details the analysis of 43 complaints regarding potential irregularities in foreign trade operations.
Suspected violations include the under-declaration of values and incorrect classification of imported goods under the Mercosul Common Nomenclature (NCM). Affected sectors include chemicals, textiles, household goods, electronics, and machinery and equipment.
The Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) found evidence of irregularities plausible in 11 cases, leading to the requirement of non-automatic licensing to verify the conduct of suspected importers. Six processes did not meet the minimum requirements for further investigation, while 26 complaints remain in various stages of analysis. The GI-CEX operates through the integration of Secex and the Federal Revenue to identify risks and ensure fair competition and legal compliance.
