Brazil melon season shows positive start in European markets

The 2026/2027 Brazilian melon season has commenced with positive indicators for the European market. According to Gino van Lin of Frankort & Koning, the transition from European production to Brazilian imports has been relatively smooth compared to the previous season.

Stable demand, supported by warm weather in Europe, combined with lower overall import volumes, has resulted in favorable entry prices. A notable trend this season is a decrease in the total number of importers, which has led to market shifts and an influx of new customers across all market segments.

While November and December are traditionally challenging months due to colder weather and changing seasonal consumption habits, industry outlook remains optimistic. Current market prices include approximately 1.60 EUR per kg for Galia, 2.00 EUR for American Cantaloupe, and 1.10 EUR for watermelon.
