Novo Repartimento man killed over election bet dispute

A man was shot and killed in the Belo Monte district of Novo Repartimento, Pará, following a dispute over an election-related bet. The victim, identified as Antônio Jardim Gomes, had reportedly wagered his pickup truck on the outcome of the first round of the presidential election.

According to preliminary investigations by the Civil Police, the alleged winner of the bet, Ananias Sotero de Oliveira, went to the victim's residence to collect the vehicle. A verbal argument ensued when Gomes refused to hand over the keys. During the confrontation, Oliveira allegedly fired approximately six shots at the victim, who died at the scene. The suspect fled the area without taking the truck and remains at large. Authorities are currently interviewing witnesses and conducting forensic examinations to finalize the investigation into the homicide.
