Brazil Ministry of Agriculture launches El Niño guidance platform
Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) has launched an official information platform to guide producers on the potential impacts of El Niño on agriculture and livestock. Developed in partnership with the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the site provides data, meteorological warnings, and technical guidance to help mitigate climate risks.
The platform includes resources on rural credit, insurance, technical assistance, and the Agricultural Risk Zoning (Zarc). It also features technical information from the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and an El Niño dashboard.
Agriculture Minister André de Paula announced the creation of a permanent climate risk management nucleus within the Ministry to anticipate future scenarios. Despite challenges such as producer debt and climate volatility, de Paula expressed optimism regarding the sector's growth, citing projections from Conab that suggest a potential increase in grain production for the 2026/27 cycle.
