Brazil Ministry of Education regulates 2027 school holidays for Women's World Cup

The Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) has regulated the 2027 school calendar to accommodate the FIFA Women's World Cup, which will be hosted in Brazil from June 24 to July 25, 2027. Following a directive from the National Council of Education (CNE), the rules establish that school systems in the eight host states—Minas Gerais, Ceará, Rio Grande do Sul, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, São Paulo, and the Distrito Federal—as well as approximately 174 municipalities in their metropolitan or direct influence areas, must adjust their mid-year holidays to coincide with the tournament.

This adjustment aims to provide legal certainty, facilitate urban mobility, and allow students and educators to follow the matches without disrupting the academic year. For regions not directly impacted by the tournament, the MEC has granted autonomy to state and municipal networks to decide whether to align their holidays with the event, based on local educational, socioeconomic, and climatic needs.

Separately, the MEC has extended the deadline to September 15, 2026, for municipalities to submit their Action Plans for the National Pact for Learning Recovery via the Simec system. Additionally, the deadline for Brazilian public schools to select textbooks for the 2027-2030 cycle ends today, Friday, for students in the 1st to 5th grades of elementary school.
