OBMEP 2026: Over 900,000 students to take second phase exams
More than 900,000 students from the 6th grade of elementary school through the 3rd year of high school are scheduled to participate in the second phase of the 21st Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad of Public Schools (OBMEP) this Saturday, October 17. The exam, which begins at 2:30 PM Brasília time, consists of six discursive questions covering various mathematical topics.
The 2026 edition introduces a significant novelty: the first Olympiad specifically for teachers of the early years of basic education, known as the OBMEP Mirim Teachers' Olympiad. This inaugural phase for educators will take place on the same day.
Promoted by the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) with support from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI) and the Ministry of Education (MEC), the competition aims to stimulate mathematical study and identify talent. National medalists may qualify for scientific initiation programs and specific undergraduate vacancies at institutions such as the University of São Paulo (USP).
