Brazil Ministry of Education regulates 2027 school holidays for Women's World Cup

The Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) has established regulations for school holidays in 2027 to coincide with the FIFA Women's World Cup. The tournament, which features 32 teams and 64 matches, will take place from June 24 to July 25, 2027.

Under the guidelines approved by the National Council of Education, school systems in the eight host cities and approximately 174 municipalities within their direct metropolitan or influential areas must adjust their academic calendars. In these locations, the mid-year recess must align with the tournament period to allow students and educators to follow the matches without missing classes and to mitigate urban mobility issues.

State and municipal education networks not directly impacted by the tournament maintain the autonomy to decide whether to align their holidays with the event. These decisions should account for local educational, socioeconomic, and climatic needs. The regulation aims to provide legal certainty and uniform guidance across the country's public and private education systems.
