Brazil Ministry of Education reports progress in municipal racial equity

The 2026 Equity Diagnosis, prepared by Brazil’s Ministry of Education (MEC) through Secadi, indicates progress in racial equity policies within municipal school networks across the North and Central-West regions.

In the North region, the general average for indicators regarding education for ethnic-racial relations (Erer) rose from 25.8 in 2024 to 34.3 in 2026, an increase of 8.5 points. Institutionalization in the North rose from 37.1 to 55.3 during the same period.

In the Central-West region, the general Erer indicator increased from 26.5 in 2024 to 32 in 2026, a 5.5-point difference. Institutionalization in this region grew from 35.7 to 45.8.

These results reflect the first two-year execution period of the National Policy for Equity, Education for Ethnic-Racial Relations, and Quilombola School Education (Pneerq). The policy aims to combat racism, value diversity, and reduce learning gaps between Black and white students by strengthening municipal management and specialized coordination within education secretariats.
