Brazil Ministry of Health reinforces reporting channels for political discrimination in healthcare

The Brazilian Ministry of Health has reinforced its reporting channels to address cases of political discrimination within both public and private healthcare services. This move follows viral social media reports involving healthcare professionals and students allegedly insulting patients based on their political affiliations.

Citizens and healthcare professionals can report such incidents through the SUS General Ombudsman (OuvSUS) via the free Central 136 hotline. The service operates Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 20:00 and Saturdays from 8:00 to 18:00. Reports can also be filed online through the Ministry of Health portal.

To facilitate investigations, the Ministry advises complainants to provide detailed information, including the date, location, a full account of the event, names of those involved, and witness identification. Complaints involving public servants are forwarded to competent administrative instances, while those involving private institutions are directed to the appropriate regulatory entities.
