Brazil Ministry of Justice reclassifies Record biblical cartoons
The Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security has changed the age rating for the program “Record Kids: Desenhos Bíblicos,” broadcast by Record. Previously rated as free for all ages, the program is now classified as not recommended for children under 12.
The Ministry justified the decision, which was published in the Official Gazette, by citing the presence of content involving criminal acts, legal drugs, violence, and stigma or prejudice. Due to the new rating, the program is now recommended for broadcast only after 8:00 PM on open television, whereas it previously aired on Sunday mornings.
The decision has drawn criticism from federal deputies, including Capitão Alden (PL-BA), who has demanded transparency regarding the technical parameters and specific episodes used to justify the measure. The deputy called for clarity and impartiality in how religious content is evaluated compared to non-religious content.
