Brazil: Missing tire valve caps do not result in traffic fines

Driving a vehicle without a tire valve cap does not constitute a traffic violation under the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB). Although a common concern among motorists, the absence of this small component does not fall under Article 230, which addresses driving a vehicle in disagreement with safety conditions.

Traffic agents focus on the functionality and integrity of the tire system during inspections. If the valve is sealing air correctly and shows no structural damage, the lack of a protective cap is not grounds for a fine. However, the cap serves critical maintenance functions, including protecting the valve from dust, sand, mud, and water, and preventing debris from compromising the air retention system. While not legally required, replacing a lost cap is recommended to prevent premature wear and potential leaks.
