Brazil mobilizes task force and funds to combat El Niño impacts

The Brazilian Federal Government is organizing a task force in Santa Catarina to coordinate responses to the potential impacts of the El Niño phenomenon. This mobilization involves various ministries and federal agencies to provide immediate assistance to citizens, businesses, farmers, and municipalities facing extreme weather events.

The national strategy, coordinated by the Casa Civil, includes a budget of R$ 1.335 billion for preparation and response across the country. While the South faces risks of intense rainfall and flooding, other regions may experience droughts, heatwaves, and wildfires.

In Espírito Santo, the El Niño phenomenon is already influencing local weather conditions. Monitoring reports indicate irregular rainfall patterns and elevated temperatures, with some northern and northwestern regions experiencing extended dry periods. Authorities are maintaining close surveillance of meteorological conditions, water resources, and heat spots as the phenomenon is expected to persist or intensify.
