Brazil mother sentenced to 32 years for kidnapping, torture and murder of ex‑partner

A mother in São Paulo was sentenced on 29 July to 32 years in prison for her role in the kidnapping, torture and murder of her former partner in Campinas. Prosecutors said she enlisted a criminal faction after accusing the man of sexually abusing their daughter, leading to an ambush in February 2022. The victim and his companion were held captive for about 12 days, subjected to repeated physical and psychological torture to force a confession, after which the man was taken to other locations and has never been found. The court also convicted the women of qualified homicide, illegal detention, concealment of a corpse, torture and criminal association, ordering both to serve their sentences in a closed‑regime prison without the possibility of appeal while free.

The case highlights the severe consequences of involving organized crime in personal disputes and the Brazilian justice system's response to such violent crimes.
