Brazil Moves to Require Photos with Traffic Fines under New Law

The Chamber of Deputies' Transport and Roads Committee approved Project Law 544/2026, which would amend the Brazilian Traffic Code to mandate that notifications of traffic fines issued by videomonitoring cameras include a photograph of the alleged violation. The measure, sponsored by Deputy Danilo Forte, aims to improve transparency and legal certainty, ending the current practice where drivers must formally request images to contest fines.

If the bill passes the full Chamber, the Senate and the president’s signature, it will require the same photographic evidence already used for radar speed fines. The proposal also notes the growing use of artificial‑intelligence‑enhanced cameras that can capture detailed images even at high speeds, further supporting the push for visual proof in all automated traffic enforcement.

The bill now proceeds to the Constitution and Justice Committee for review before the next legislative stages.
