Brazil municipal health conferences focus on SUS strengthening

Brazil's 11th municipal health conferences began in two cities, aiming to reinforce the Unified Health System (SUS). In João Pessoa, Paraíba, the conference opened on Tuesday with the theme “Health, Democracy, Sovereignty and SUS: caring for the people is caring for Brazil.” The event gathered SUS users, health workers and managers to debate proposals, vote on delegates and shape the municipal health plan for the next four years.

In Cáceres, Mato Grosso, the conference is scheduled for 17 June 2026 at the Maria Sophia Leite Auditorium. Organizers emphasized the same theme and invited citizens, health workers, managers and civil‑society representatives to participate in working groups, develop proposals and elect delegates who will represent the municipality at state‑level meetings. Both meetings are structured around four thematic axes: democratic health governance, adequate financing, climate‑related health challenges and integrated care models. The conferences serve as participatory forums for local communities to influence SUS policies and improve public‑health services.
