Brazil municipalities launch rabies vaccination campaigns

Various municipalities across Brazil have launched or are continuing rabies vaccination campaigns for dogs and cats to prevent zoonotic transmission.

In Cruzeiro do Sul, health teams have begun door-to-door vaccinations to increase coverage. In Feira de Santana, over 32,000 animals have been immunized, reaching 55% of the municipal goal. Manaus has initiated its 2026 campaign with a target of over 280,000 animals, utilizing both home visits and fixed posts.

In the Distrito Federal, free vaccination remains available year-round following a confirmed rabies case in a dog in Lago Norte, which interrupted a long period without canine cases. Similarly, in Palmas, vaccination coverage has reached 87.02% following a recent canine rabies case. In São Paulo, 20 fixed posts offer free vaccines, while Natal is conducting door-to-door efforts in five specific neighborhoods. In Ribas do Rio Pardo, teams are covering both urban and rural areas to ensure widespread protection.
