Brazil election transport: Free public transit offered in several regions

As Brazil prepares for the second round of elections, various regions are implementing free public transportation to facilitate voter access. In Nova Iguaçu, municipal buses will operate free of charge from 6:00 to 20:00, supported by increased security patrols from the Municipal Guard. In the state of Bahia, nearly 20,000 free passes have already been issued for intermunicipal travel, with specific rules for ferry-boats and metropolitan transport.

In Rondônia, intermunicipal and semi-urban transport will be free from October 24 to October 26. Similarly, the Goiânia Metropolitan Region will offer free bus services throughout the voting day. In Tocantins, free transport will cover urban, rural, and intermunicipal areas. In Recife, a cooperation agreement between the City Hall and TRE-PE will provide accessible vans for voters with disabilities.

In the Federal District, Metrô-DF will open its stations at 6:00, though specific confirmation on metro fare exemptions is pending. Meanwhile, Supreme Court Minister Cármen Lúcia denied a request from the Lula campaign to extend free transport to interstate travel, stating that the competence to decide such matters lies with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
