Brazil agribusiness expands with 700 new markets and EU trade boost

Brazil's agribusiness sector is experiencing significant growth and expansion. Since 2023, the country has opened 700 new international markets for agricultural products. The provisional implementation of the Mercosul-European Union trade agreement has boosted Brazilian exports to the EU by 30.7% between May and September 2026 compared to the previous year.

In 2025, Brazil's cellulose production reached a record 29.4 million tons, and agribusiness exports totaled US$ 169 billion. Vice President Geraldo Alckmin noted that Brazil is on track to potentially become the world's largest food exporter by the end of 2026, nearing the United States' export levels.

Despite these successes, challenges remain. The country maintains a high dependency on imported fertilizers, with 93% of fertilizers used in 2025 being imported. Additionally, while egg exports saw a 29.4% increase in September, cumulative year-to-date volumes have declined compared to 2025 due to high baseline figures from previous US demand.
