Brazil automotive market sees decline in new vehicle prices

The Brazilian automotive market saw a decline in new vehicle prices during July. According to data from MegaDealer and Auto Avaliar, the manufacturer-suggested price (MSRP) fell by 3.3% to R$ 168,405, while the actual average transaction price dropped by 3.5% to R$ 158,403.

This price reduction was accompanied by increased discounts from dealerships, with the average discount rising from 6.9% to 7.1%. Analysts attribute the price drop to a shift in consumer preference toward more affordable vehicle categories, such as entry-level SUVs, hatchbacks, and pickups.

Despite lower prices, the sector faces challenges regarding inventory turnover. The average time to sell a vehicle increased from 37 to 41 days, marking the lowest turnover rate since January. In the Northeast region, new car prices fell by 0.76% in July.

Accessibility remains a significant concern for Brazilian consumers. A study by Bright Consulting indicates that the average price of a new car has reached R$ 169,000, which would require approximately 48 months of the average national income to purchase. This financial burden is significantly higher than in economies like Japan or Germany.
