Brazil notary offices use digital tool to certify electoral promises
Notary offices in Brazil are utilizing a digital tool called e-Not Provas to provide legal validity to electoral promises made by candidates on the internet. The platform, launched by the Colégio Notarial do Brasil – Conselho Federal (CNB/CF) through the e-Notariado system, allows citizens and lawyers to register social media posts, videos, and digital declarations.
By documenting the exact date, time, and electronic address of the content, a notary public can issue a certificate with public faith. This ensures that even if a candidate edits or deletes their digital content after an election, the original record remains intact and can be used as evidence to compare campaign commitments with actual performance during a mandate.
In Minas Gerais, the tool has already authenticated 3,670 digital pages, while in Pernambuco, it has recorded 1,321 pages. Nationally, the platform has surpassed 60,000 consolidated records.
