Brazil notifies YouTube to remove AI-generated fake doctor videos

The Brazilian Attorney General's Office (AGU) has notified YouTube to remove or label videos featuring fake doctors created using artificial intelligence. This action follows an investigation by the Ministry of Health's ‘Saúde com Ciência’ program, which identified 97 profiles disseminating false medical information between January 1 and July 10, 2026.

These videos utilize human-like AI avatars that claim to be medical specialists to promote unproven cures, treatments, and paid products such as e-books. The content often uses alarmist language and specifically targets elderly populations, posing risks such as self-medication, the use of ineffective therapies, and the delay of professional medical care.

The AGU has requested that YouTube take action within 72 hours to either disable the identified content or implement labeling and contextualization to clarify the artificial nature of the characters. The findings have also been forwarded to the Federal Police and the Federal Council of Medicine.
