Brazil opens voting‑in‑transit registration period for 2026 election

The Brazilian Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has opened a registration window from 20 July to 20 August 2026 for voters to request "voto em trânsito" – a temporary transfer allowing them to cast their ballot at a different polling station than the one assigned to them. The measure targets voters with mobility challenges, such as users of wheelchairs, walkers, prostheses, seniors with difficulty walking, pregnant women with medical restrictions, and people recovering from surgery or suffering from diseases that impede movement. To qualify, voters must have a regular electoral registration, present a photo ID, and submit a self‑declaration or documentation proving the difficulty, as well as indicate a preferred polling location that has an available vacancy. Approved requests enable voting only at the chosen temporary section for the 2026 general election, scheduled for 4 October, with a possible second round on 25 October. Information on the new voting location can be consulted from 1 September via the e‑Título app or other TSE channels. The deadline for submitting the request is 20 August, after which the voter must vote at the designated temporary section.
