Brazil Opens New IFES Campus in Pedro Canário

On July 3, the Ministry of Education inaugurated the Instituto Federal do Espírito Santo (IFES) campus in Pedro Canário, Espírito Santo. The ceremony was attended by federal deputy Helder Salomão, IFES rector Adriana Barcellos, and other federal and state officials. The campus was built with an investment of R$ 16.9 million from the Novo Programa de Aceleração do Crescimento (Novo PAC) and will eventually serve about 800 students in technical and higher‑education programmes, initially offering courses in information and communication technologies and industrial process control.

The 2,394 m² facility includes classrooms, a library, an IT lab, a mini‑auditorium, a cafeteria and administrative offices. It is part of a broader federal effort that allocates R$ 76.7 million to expand and consolidate the national network of federal institutes, with simultaneous openings in São Paulo, Piauí and Amazonas. Sandra Grützmacher, MEC director of policy and evaluation, emphasized that “todo o investimento feito nos institutos federais é organizado para atender a toda a comunidade.” The new campus aims to broaden vocational and technological education opportunities for youth and adults in the region.
