Brazil opens payouts for forgotten PIS/Pasep funds and deceased INSS benefits

In Brazil, the Social Security Institute (INSS) warns that using a deceased beneficiary’s card to withdraw remaining funds is illegal and may constitute fraud against the Union. Relatives must notify INSS, can request the “benefit residual” through the Meu INSS portal or app, and may need a judicial order or public deed to access the money, while any outstanding debts are settled according to the civil code.

Meanwhile, Caixa Econômica Federal has begun a new tranche of payments for forgotten PIS/Pasep balances from the 1971‑1988 fund. About 2,744 former contributors or their heirs will receive roughly R$7.5 million, averaging R$2.8 thousand each, but the Ministry of Finance says around R$26.7 billion still awaits claim by an estimated 10.4 million Brazilians.
