Brazil opens public consultation for 2nd National Racial Equality Plan

The Brazilian government has opened a public consultation for the 2nd National Plan for the Promotion of Racial Equality (Planapir). The process is available through the Brasil Participativo digital platform and will remain open until October 16.

The plan aims to guide state actions in combating structural racism, addressing historical reparations, reducing inequalities, and ensuring rights. The strategic objectives are based on discussions from the 5th National Conference on the Promotion of Racial Equality (Conapir) held in 2025.

The 2nd Planapir is organized into 16 thematic axes, including education, health, labor and productive inclusion, public security, justice, and climate justice. It also focuses on specific groups such as Quilombola communities, Black women, Black youth, and the Black LGBTQIAPN+ population. Citizens and social movements are invited to suggest improvements to the wording of objectives, propose new goals, or suggest new initiatives to be incorporated into the final version of the document.
