Brazil participates in FAO fisheries session in Rome

The Brazilian Ministry of Fishing and Aquaculture (MPA) participated in the 37th Session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI37) held in Rome, Italy, from September 9 to 11. The agenda focused on small-scale artisanal fishing, seafood production chains, food security, and international cooperation.

During an international roundtable organized by Assoittica Italia, representatives from Brazil and Italy discussed the future of the seafood value chain. The meeting aimed to identify cooperation opportunities and strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations regarding the fishing and aquaculture sectors.

Additionally, the MPA presented the development of Brazil’s first National Plan for Artisanal Fishing. This initiative is designed to implement the Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries (SSF Guidelines) in Brazil, involving fishers and their organizations in defining public policy priorities.
