Brazil personal insurance premiums reach R$ 41.6 billion in H1 2026
Personal insurance premiums in Brazil reached R$ 41.6 billion in the first half of 2026, marking a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Data from the Superintendência de Seguros Privados (Susep) and the Federação Nacional de Previdência Privada e Vida (Fenaprevi) show significant growth in specific sectors, with credit life insurance (Prestamista) and critical illness insurance both rising by 19.2% annually.
Life insurance accounted for 48% of the total revenue, totaling approximately R$ 20 billion. Other notable segments included credit life insurance at 30% and personal accident insurance at 11%. During this same period, indemnities paid out to policyholders and their families reached R$ 8.9 billion.
Industry leaders suggest the growth reflects a shift in consumer behavior, with more Brazilians seeking financial planning and security. Experts note that consumers are increasingly viewing life insurance as a tool for living, providing support for medical expenses and critical illnesses rather than just death benefits.
