Brazil pharma firms EMS, FarmaUSA launch major capacity expansions

Brazilian pharmaceutical company EMS announced an investment of at least R$ 1 billion to expand its operations in the Manaus Free‑Trade Zone. The project will add a new industrial plant adjacent to its existing facility, aiming to raise tablet output from 1.5 billion to two billion units per month by 2028, with construction expected to finish by the end of 2027.

American cannabis‑medicinal firm FarmaUSA Life Science, operating in Brazil, said it has fully nationalised its production chain, becoming the first company to manufacture cannabis‑derived medicines entirely in Brazil. With its administrative headquarters in Volta Redonda (RJ) and a manufacturing plant in São Paulo purchased from Takeda, the firm plans to produce up to 100 000 units per month and launch four new CBD products, while expanding its sales team from 32 to 50 representatives.

Both moves reflect a broader trend of increasing investment in Brazil’s pharmaceutical sector, driven by growing demand for treatments such as obesity, diabetes and medical cannabis.
