Brazil pharmaceutical industry sees growth in domestic production and labor demand

The Brazilian pharmaceutical industry is seeing significant growth and increased domestic production. According to data from ALANAC and IQVIA, national laboratories accounted for 80.94% of the units of medicine commercialized in Brazil during the first half of 2026, an increase from 77.9% in 2025. Generic medicines represent a major portion of this market, totaling 1.186 billion units, or 38.77% of the total market.

This industrial expansion is supported by a growing demand for healthcare professionals. Pharmacy technicians in Brazil face a diverse salary landscape, with national averages typically ranging between R$ 2,637.00 and R$ 3,254.85 per month for a 40-hour work week. Regional variations are notable; for instance, the average salary in São Paulo is approximately R$ 3,336.60, while in Rio de Janeiro, it is around R$ 2,188.44. While there is currently no unified national minimum wage for technicians, legislative efforts are underway to establish a national floor.
