Brazil pharmaceutical market grows as Chiesi invests R$ 124 million

The Brazilian pharmaceutical and wellness markets are experiencing significant shifts. The self-care and wellness segment in Brazil reached R$ 27.7 billion in the 12 months ending July 2026, representing a 9.3% increase. This sector now accounts for approximately 24% of combined sales for over-the-counter (OTC) medicines and non-medicinal products in pharmacies. Vitamins and minerals lead this segment with a 31.8% market share, while supplements follow at 18.7%.

In parallel, Italian pharmaceutical company Chiesi is investing R$ 124 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Santana de Parnaíba, Brazil. The expansion aims to increase annual production capacity from 15 million to 25 million units, a nearly 67% increase. The project focuses on manufacturing a new generation of spray inhalers for asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

This technological upgrade includes the use of HFA 152a propellant, which Chiesi claims can reduce the carbon footprint of these inhalers by up to 90% compared to previous versions. The facility currently serves both the Brazilian market and international markets in Europe and the Middle East. Chiesi aims to increase its Brazilian revenue from R$ 690 million in 2025 to R$ 1 billion by 2030.
