Brazil: PIS and Pasep worker benefit guidelines
Brazilian workers have different avenues to access funds from the PIS (Social Integration Program) and Pasep (Public Servant Patrimony Formation Program). These programs, established in the 1970s, provide benefits to private sector workers and public servants who contributed during specific periods.
One distinct category involves the “forgotten money” from the original PIS/Pasep fund. Workers who were registered between 1971 and October 5, 1988, may be entitled to withdraw these accumulated values. Consultations can be conducted via the REPIS Cidadão portal, the FGTS application, or in person at Caixa Econômica Federal branches.
Separately, the annual PIS salary bonus is a distinct benefit managed by the Ministry of Labor and Employment and paid through Caixa. To qualify for the annual bonus, workers must earn up to two minimum wages, have at least five years of formal registration, and have worked for at least 30 days in the base year. Unlike the historical fund quotas, the annual bonus is not cumulative and must be withdrawn within specific deadlines to avoid losing the benefit for that calendar year.
