Brazil Pnatrans traffic safety plan shows low execution rates
A study conducted by the Observatório Nacional de Segurança Viária (ONSV) in partnership with the Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) reveals low execution rates for Brazil's National Plan for the Reduction of Deaths and Injuries in Traffic (Pnatrans).
Of the 261 products scheduled for completion by 2025, only 36—approximately 13.8%—have been fully executed. The study indicates that 128 products were not implemented, while 85 lacked sufficient public records to confirm their status. This delay occurs as the country approaches the 2030 deadline to halve national traffic death rates.
The report highlights significant imbalances across the plan's pillars. The Safe Roads (Vias Seguras) infrastructure sector saw 81% of its planned deliveries fail to materialize. Other areas, including Standardization and Inspection and Surveillance, Health, and Victim Care, showed execution rates of only 3.5% and 4%, respectively.
